Strats are/were made in Japan also (Mi J/Ci J- think the "C" means "Customized for")- I believe I read somewhere the Mi Js are now made for Japanese consumers now only, but not really sure.
The Mi Js are supposedly superior to the Mi Ms.*My Strat looks looks like the the one in the picture, but doesn't have the marble finish. I just wanted people to see that the output jack is flush with the body, as opposed to it being recessed.
Right now, I'm having a tough time getting the action lower- I may have to bring it to a professional tech to get it right. I have been playing guitar for about 40 years now (still don't claim to be anything too special) but another one of those bang for your bux's deals is the MIA Highway One strat. It has everything the standard has in sound and plays like a dream. At a very reasonable price right from the music store.
In the meantime, the high action is good for getting my fingering spot-on, and doesn't leave room for getting sloppy. I did have to make a few changes for it to work the way i need it to. The Mi Ms are made of lighter wood also (I always confuse alder and ash, so I can't say which wood the Mi Ms are made from.) I was expecting a real lightweight compared to my Mi A, but the Mi M feels just as hefty.
I'll compare my Mi M to my 1984 American as examples.
